It is far too early to make sports betting judgments on rookie players that have been tested early on this preseason, but there is something to say about a couple of key performers that have shown immense promise. The Carolina Panthers and Cincinnati Bengals are two of the NFL team’s that are slotted in the “rebuilding mode” in most forecasts for the coming season, and after the two team’s met on Thursday night, it is easy to see why. However, both teams have rookie quarterbacks that are likely to start week one of the regular season, and both have shown promise this preseason.

The Panthers landed a potential NFL betting lines superstar in Cam Newton, the first overall pick out of the National Champion Auburn Tigers’ program. Newton has had a tough time this preseason with his timing and accuracy, but he has shown flashes of his arm strength and playmaking ability with his legs, and it has been enough that he will likely get his chance to start from day one. Meanwhile, Bengals’ rookie quarterback Andy Dalton has looked solid as well, including outplaying Newton in a 24-13 win Thursday night in which he completed 11 of 17 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown. Dalton credited the running game for his ability to operate from the pocket, and if that can continue then perhaps we have only seen the beginning of his immense potential. Newton and Dalton are two rookie quarterbacks likely to start game one of the regular season, and are worth keeping an eye on as they continue to progress into their final preseason game.
