With the National Football League lockout now extended to the longest in the history of the sport, there could be some good news on its way for football fans hoping that a season isn’t compromised, and it could get here before the 2011 Belmont Stakes betting race. That is the result of promising signs that a deal could be done after US Judge Arthur Boylan cancelled mediation sessions for next week after significant progress was made away from the courts. Boylan noted that the mediation sessions weren’t necessary for next week because the two sides were engaged in confidential talks to settle.
That news is more than welcome for football sports betting fans who have been worried since February about the possibility of a cancelled season, although with so much money on the line that was viewed by many as never a viable option. The two sides worked into the night on Wednesday and then continued talks on Thursday before wrapping them up on Thursday afternoon, and it appears as though both are ready to concede some ground in an effort to get a deal done. Friday is day 80 of the lockout, which is now the longest in NFL history. There were no lawyers present at the talks aside from NFLPA president DeMaurice Smith, which was said by one source to be the point of the meeting since they were eager to resolve things their own way. Those are all promising signs that a deal can be done soon.
