While the New England Patriots and New Orleans Saints rank among the teams that were the most prepared for a potential lockout heading into this labor war, there are a handful of teams that will really be affected in a negative way by the pending strike. The longer the lockout continues, the more unprepared these teams will be for a potential season when the league actually does get back underway. To find the franchises that will hurt the most is to find the ones that are caught in the middle of transition, and the Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans fit that bill more than any other as it extends past the Preakness Stakes betting weekend.
The Vikings will have the biggest turnover with a new head coach in Leslie Frazier and a new franchise quarterback in Christian Ponder. Minnesota has the on-field talent and depth on both sides of the ball to be a legitimate contender, but the fact that Frazier and Ponder will have to wait so long before becoming acclimated with their new outlook could keep them from being the contender that they have the potential to be. The Titans are in a similar situation in the post-Vince Young era, with Mike Munchak taking over for Jeff Fisher while the No. 8 overall pick Jake Locker makes his way to the Music City to take over for Young. The defense lost one of the best defensive line coaches in the sports betting league in Jim Washburn, and with so much transition on both sides of the ball it will hurt that they don’t have the extra time to prepare for a coming season.
