Frustration continues to be the operative word when the National Football League and its players talk about a potential Collective Bargaining Agreement and the lack of discussions that have gone on in the past couple of weeks. While the case of the ongoing lockout battle continues to be debated in the US courts, there haven’t been any positive talks between the two sides to work towards a new agreement making it a real possibility that this labor dispute could cut into a potential online sports betting season this September.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has talked openly about the league’s desire to resume the negotiations with its players, and has repeatedly told reporters that it was the players that walked away from the tables in March. The league suffered a tough blow when US judge Susan Richard Nelson made the decision to provide an injunction on the lockout based on the owner’s costing the players crucial time and money to an immeasurable extent in terms of their careers and missing an entire season, but a higher court has ruled in favor of a stay of execution in order to put the lockout back in place. It is uncertain how the decision will come about in US court in the weeks ahead, and the next date for court-ordered talks between the two sides in front of a federal magistrate is a couple of weeks after the 2011 Kentucky derby betting race on May 16.
