Super Bowl betting enthusiasts are counting down the days until February 6th, 2011. It is on that day that football betting handicappers will see if they were right or wrong on whom they predicted to be the two finalists from the 2010-11 season. We believe that the two finalists will be the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles, two teams with quarterbacks that came into the season with chips on their shoulders.
Going into the 2010-11 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles were both expected to once again be on the outside looking in. On the one hand, you had the Steelers, trading away former Super Bowl MVP Santonio Holmes, and quarterback Ben Roethlisberger serving a suspension for a month for conduct outside of the NFL. On the other hand, you had the Philadelphia Eagles parting ways with a veteran line up and replacing it with a much younger one, in what was expected to be a rebuilding year.
Instead, we now have two teams with elite records after a 17 game season. The Steelers owned the second best record in the AFC going 12 and four over 17 games, while the Eagles finished the season 11 and five. What’s more, the Steelers will have a first round bye, and the defense has returned to its lethal stage that we all came to love two years ago.
Meanwhile, the Eagles will be taking the tougher route to the Super Bowl, as they get the Packers in the first round of the playoffs, and then face the Bears, before taking on the winner of the expected Falcons vs. Saints game. This season, many expect that former convict Michael Vick, will win the MVP award. The only way we see that happening, is if the Eagles can survive the playoffs before defeating the Steelers in the finals.
