owens1Since it merged with the AFL in 1970, fans betting on NFL games have been able to witness some the greatest single game performances in the history of the league. From Gale Sayers to Jerry Rice, NFL betting fans have come to expect the league’s top stars to put their teams on their backs and win the games on their own. Here are three of the greatest single game performances in the NFL.

  • Steve Young QB San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl XXIX 1995 - Throughout his career, Steve Young had huge shoes to fill as he was the next quarterback in San Francisco after hall of fame pivot Joe Montana. The San Francisco faithful were becoming disgruntled as they had enjoyed multiple championships in the 1980s, only to have rival Dallas run rampant on the NFC for the first four years of the 1990s.

In 1995, Steve Young guided the 49ers to their first Super Bowl since 1989 and put in one of the best single game performances ever. Young went 24 for 36 with six touchdowns, 325 passing yards, five runs of 59 yards total.

  • Shaun Alexander RB Seattle Seahawks – In 2002, Alexander along with Marshal Faulk were the two best running backs in the NFL. On September 29, 2002, Alexander set a modern day NFL record as he scored five touchdowns all in the first half. What’s more, three of the five touchdowns came in a span of one minute and five seconds.
  • Adrian Peterson RB Minnesota Vikings - While Brett Favre has got the majority if not all of the attention in Minnesota the last two seasons, it has been ‘Superman’ Adrian Peterson that has put the team on his back. Perhaps his most memorable game in the almost four years Peterson has been in the league came during a week eight performance against the San Diego Chargers in 2008.

During the game, Peterson ran for almost 300 yards had over 30 carries and scored an astounding three touchdowns. The 300 yards rushing was a single game record.
