The Cincinnati Bengals have been one of the biggest surprises in the NFL season this year – how much bigger of a surprise would it be if they won the Super Bowl?
On the surface, it might sound a little farfetched but when you consider their body of work, it is hard to argue with.
The Bengals have swept their division, which includes two wins over the reigning Super Bowl champs, the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Baltimore Ravens, who were considered to a be Super Bowl contender.
They have also topped the Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers, who are also decent teams.
When looking for a Super Bowl champion, you have to search for three things:
1. Can they run the football?
2. Can they play defense?
3. Can they win on the road?
With Cedric Benson – and now Larry Johnson – the Bengals do in fact have one of the best rushing offenses in the NFL. As a matter of fact, the Bengals are one of the few teams in the league that have the old school power rushing style thanks to Benson.
On defense, the Bengals have one of the league’s best run defenses and overall units. They have shutdown several good offenses and Marvin Lewis has this unit humming.
Lastly, the Bengals have already shown that they can win on the road win big wins in Pittsburgh and Baltimore, and they started the season by winning four of their first five road games.
This is a complete team from top to bottom and with a healthy Chad Ochocinco and a healthy Carson Palmer, this team will be your 2009-10 Super Bowl Champion.
